求職自薦信是畢業生向用人單位自我推薦的書面材料，是畢業生所有求職材料中至為關鍵的支柱性文件，其寫作質量直接關繫到畢業生擇業的成功與否。因此，自薦信被稱為畢業生求職的「敲門磚「。
自薦信的重點在於「薦「，在構思上一定要圍繞「為何薦「，「憑何薦「、「怎麼薦「的思路安排，其格式一般分為標題、稱呼、正文、附件和落款五部分。
1、標題 標題是自薦信的標志和稱謂，要求醒目、簡潔、庄雅。要用較大字體在用紙上方標注「自薦信「三個字，顯得大方、美觀。
2、稱呼 這是對主送單位或收件人的呼語。如用人單位明確，可直接寫上單位名稱，前以「尊敬的」加以修飾，後以領導職務或統稱「領導「落筆，如單位不明確，則用統稱「尊敬的貴單位（公司或學校）領導「領起，最好不要直接冠以最高領導職務，這樣容易引起第一讀者的反感，反而難達目的。
3、正文 正文是自薦信的核心，開語應表示向對方的問候致意。主體部分一般包括簡介、自薦目的、條件展示、願望決心和結語五項內容。
簡介是自我概要的說明，包括自薦人姓名、性別、民族、年齡、籍貫、政治面貌、文化程度、校系專業、家庭住址、任職情況等要素，要針對自自薦目的作簡單說明，無須冗長繁瑣。
自薦目的要寫清信息來源，求職意向、承擔工作目標等項目，要寫得明確具體、但要把握分寸、簡明扼要，既不能要求過高又不能模稜兩可，給人以自負或自卑的不良印象。
條件展示是自薦信的關鍵內容，主要應寫清自己的才能和特長。要針對所求工作的應知應會去寫，充分展示求職的條件，從基本條件和特殊條件兩個方面解決憑什麼求的問題。基本條件應寫清政治表現和學習活動兩方面內容。政治表現要從活動和績效方面寫實，如黨校學習、參加活動、敬業態度、奉獻精神、合作意識等方面，並佐以獲獎和資格證書。學習經歷要寫清主、輔修專業課程及成績狀況，對於英語、計算機和普通話等級的情況也須一一說明，對於為人處世、組織管理、社會調查、實習設計及論文答辯等方面的情況也要略加提及，有特殊技能的也要加以強調，如操作實踐、文體書畫、寫作口才等特長，以展示自己的能力，突出個性特徵。
願望決心部分要表示加盟對方組織的熱切願望，展望單位的美好前景，期望得到認可和接納，自然懇切，不卑不亢。
結語一般在正文之後按書信格式寫上祝語或「此致，敬禮「「恭候佳音「之類語名。
4、附件 自薦信附件主要包括個人簡歷，證書及文章復製件、需要附錄說明的材料，也可作為附件一一列出。
5、落款 落款處要寫上「自薦人×××的字樣，並標注規范體公元紀年和月日。隨文處要說明回函的聯系方式、郵政編碼、地址、信箱號、電話號碼及呼機號等。署名處如列印復製件則要留下空白，由求職人親自簽名，以示鄭重和敬意。

求職信的好壞會很大程度地影響求職推薦表的作用。一份好的求職信能為你贏得一個面試機會，但一份不好的求職信則會使求職推薦表形同虛設。
一、求職信的內容
求職信最重要的在於它與簡歷表起著不同作用，許多簡歷表中的具體內容不應在求職信中重復。簡歷表告訴別人的是有關你個人基本信息、學習工作經歷和你的專業技能。而求職信告訴別人的是「為什麼你是這份工作的最佳人選。」
一封求職信應做到以下三點：
1、 自我介紹和寫求職信的理由
信的首段要著力抓住招聘主管的注意力，要用一兩句新意的話去吸引讀者。自我介紹要簡單，用一兩句話概括就可以了。寫求職信的理由，要說明你學的專業對口，有著同樣的工作興趣，或者你一直在關注貴單位的發展，經常通過新聞媒體了解貴單位或者這個行業。
2、 自我推薦
信的第二部分要簡短地敘述自己的才能和特長，特別是這些才能將能滿足用人單位的需要。但沒有必要具體陳述，因為簡歷表將負責這些。同時還應該談談這個職位的工作要求。
這部分你應強調你的才能和經驗將會有益於用人單位的發展。要讓人感到你想表達的是「我如何發揮自己的才能，為單位的發展作出貢獻」。不要在信中提及你會因聘用而工資、待遇如何。
3、制定計劃
信的結尾要表明你的下一步計劃。不要讓招聘者來決定，要自己採取行動。告訴招聘者怎樣才能與你聯絡，打電話或者發E-mail，但不要坐等電話。要表明如果幾天內等不到貴單位的電話，我會自己打電話確認招聘者已收到求職表和安排面試情況，語氣肯定但要有禮貌。
二、求職信的格式
沒有正式的格式，但在寫信時要記住一些基本的規則（與普通信的格式基本相同）。
稱呼的後面要用冒號而不要用逗號，寫稱呼時要用正式的語氣。要用具體的稱呼（例如不要寫「給有關負責人」）。要設法知道誰將收到你的信。如果有必要，可打電話詢問用人單位。如果你還是不能確定領導的名字或具體稱呼，就稱呼「尊敬的招聘經理」、「尊敬的人事部經理」，或者就稱「尊敬的領導」。
每段之間可以空一行。

2 特徵總結
從上面兩封信可看出，求職信主要包括下列部分：
1） 開篇：表明寫信人所申請的職位以及從何處得知此職位空缺；
2） 資格：所受何種教育，獲得何種學位；
3） 業績：從事過何種工作，目前何處就職，工作能力如何，有哪些成績等；
4） 附件：說明附件的數量及內容；
5） 結尾：提出面試請求，准確提供便捷的聯系方式。
除此之外，看求職信的人還可能關注求職者的年齡、性格（主要是與人合作、溝通的能力）、工作習慣和奮斗目標，求職者可視情況提供。
寫求職信主要使用一般現在時或現在進行時，但在介紹工作經歷時要使用一般過去時或現在完成時。措辭要誠懇、有禮貌，對自己的能力要表現出適度的信心，不可過分謙虛或顯得自負。
